I've been guilty of using skill chekcs too many times and, lets face it, enough rolls and you are bound to fail.

Kevin Crawford (Stars without number, etc) makes an excellent point in his systems, that a character should be very accomplished within his/her concept. So a fisherman character should almost never have to roll sail or knot tying. I take this a bit further and accept that these characters can do MORE with the same level of skill as others. davebhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07531919635590898334noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2750858425589737642.post-10091144140809257222016-03-24T22:05:21.699+00:002016-03-24T22:05:21.699+00:00Also, what about having to roll when the character...Also, what about having to roll when the character is performing in less than optimal conditions. Sure, someone with 4 ranks in the spot skill or 2 points in Awareness or whatever could automatically spot a loose flagstone with a chest hidden underneath it in optimal conditions, but maybe a roll is needed if they only have 10 seconds to survey the room or they are suffereing from some other distraction. In this case it is roll to accomplish, but you have to accomplish it when distracted by something or working under stress.Stuart Lloydhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15100216520313336932noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2750858425589737642.post-68502338608644665162016-03-23T21:40:57.400+00:002016-03-23T21:40:57.400+00:00I love this idea. Incidentally, Tunnels and Trolls refers to skill tests as saving throws, but I don't know if this is why.Stuart Lloydhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15100216520313336932noreply@blogger.com
